Mr. Nicholas Bright

Greensboro, NC | April 3, 2025,

We have some fantastic news to share from our community in Greensboro! A dedicated leader with deep ties to Scouting and countless youth in the area is being recognized for his incredible contributions.

The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department has announced that they will be renaming the Club Room at Peeler Recreation Center in honor of Mr. Nicholas Bright, the esteemed Scoutmaster of Troop 29. This is a wonderful tribute to a man who has dedicated over 50 years to operating impactful programs for both adults and youth in Greensboro.

For half a century, Mr. Bright’s passion for community development has shone brightly. His diverse experience includes running programs for BMX teams, beauty pageants, karate, art, career development, dance, and, of course, Scouting. His commitment to nurturing young people is truly remarkable.

Even today, at the age of 83, Mr. Bright remains an active force for good. He currently facilitates two vital youth-centered programs at Peeler Recreation Center: the Knights of Nobility boys mentoring program and the Parade & Drill co-ed youth program. These initiatives, which will now take place in the newly named “Nicholas Bright Club Room,” continue to shape the lives of young people in Greensboro.

Mr. Bright’s dedication extends beyond his program leadership. He is a proud Navy Veteran and an alumnus of North Carolina A&T State University, bringing a wealth of experience and wisdom to his work as a youth and adult development professional.

The words used to describe Mr. Bright speak volumes about his impact. As one community member aptly stated: “Mr. Bright is one of those rare community members that unconditionally lifts up others and recognizes each person’s inherent gifts. His programs have and continue to meet the needs of the myriad of interests of our young and elderly residents. Indeed, his approach to youth and human development is the ultimate violence prevention program.”

This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the spirit of service and positive influence that Mr. Bright embodies, a spirit that aligns perfectly with the values of Scouting America. His long-standing commitment to Troop 29 and the countless other programs he has led serve as an inspiring example for all of us.

The Old North State Council – Scouting America extends its warmest congratulations to Mr. Nicholas Bright on this well-deserved honor. His dedication to the youth of Greensboro is a testament to the power of committed leadership and the lasting impact one individual can have on a community. We are incredibly proud to have Mr. Bright as a vital part of our Scouting family.

Let’s all take a moment to celebrate Mr. Bright’s incredible legacy and the positive influence he continues to have on the lives of young people in Greensboro!
