Oak Ridge Eagle Scout

on Good Morning America for Scouting's 115th Birthday

February 7th, 2025,

Scouting America celebrated its 115th birthday with a special segment on Good Morning America, featuring two outstanding Eagle Scouts. Among them was Selby Chipman of Oak Ridge, NC, a shining star from our very own Guilford District within the Old North State Council. Selby and Johnathan Williams of Mobile, AL, shared their inspiring scouting journeys and accomplishments with a national audience.

Selby, a member of Troop 219 in Oak Ridge, has made a significant impact on her community. From volunteering at local events like the annual Christmas parade and the Oak Ridge Food Bank to serving as a camp counselor, her dedication to service is truly commendable. Her commitment shines through in projects like the community garden she created at her local elementary school, providing fresh produce for students and their families while also serving as a valuable educational resource.

Selby’s appearance on Good Morning America was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the positive impact of Scouting and the achievements of Eagle Scouts across the country. We are incredibly proud of Selby. She serves as a powerful role model for other young people in our area, demonstrating the values of leadership, service, and citizenship that Scouting instills.
