Old North State Council

Welcomes New Alamance District Executive

Greensboro, NC | February 19, 2025,

The Old North State Council, Scouting America, is pleased to announce the appointment of Isaac Young as the new District Executive for the Alamance District. Young brings a wealth of Scouting experience and a passion for youth development to the role.

A recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Young earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with minors in History and Geography. His commitment to leadership and service is evident in his Scouting background. In 2016, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Troop 121 in the Great Rivers Council (Columbia, Missouri), following in the footsteps of five of his six older brothers who also earned the prestigious rank.

Young’s journey to North Carolina began with his athletic pursuits. He joined the UNC Track & Field Team as a Decathlete in 2020 and enjoyed a successful career competing at the conference level. He credits his time as a student-athlete with further developing his skills in teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

Young’s Scouting experiences are rich and varied, including summer camps at the Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation in Missouri, participation in the Order of the Arrow, NYLT, and merit badge colleges. These experiences have instilled in him a deep appreciation for the values of Scouting and the positive impact it has on young people.

“We are thrilled to welcome Isaac to the Old North State Council,” said Gwangi Shipp – Assistant Scout Executive. “His dedication to Scouting, combined with his academic achievements and athletic experience, make him an ideal leader for the Alamance District. We are confident that he will be a valuable asset to our team and a strong advocate for the youth we serve.”

Young is eager to bring his experiences in Scouting and his professional development from UNC to the units and volunteers of Alamance County. He is committed to supporting the growth and success of Scouting in the district and looks forward to working with local leaders to provide a quality program for all youth.
