3rd Place State Level - NSSAR Orations Contest!

We’re thrilled to share some wonderful news from right here in the Old North State! Congratulations are in order for Scout Yashwanth Kollipara of Troop 600, who recently clinched 3rd place at the state level in the Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical Orations Contest. What an impressive achievement!

Representing Guilford County, Yash impressed judges with his powerful and thought-provoking speech titled “How Does the Boston Massacre Still Affect Us Today?”

Yashwanth’s dedication and hard work truly shone as he shared the inspiring stories of the patriots who fought for American independence. The Joseph S. Rumbaugh contest, supported by the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), provides a fantastic platform for students in grades 9-12 to connect with history and hone their public speaking skills. It’s all about keeping those vital stories of courage and sacrifice alive for a new generation.

We were also honored to have Sam Powell, past Treasurer of the North Carolina SAR, and Mark Mortenson, President of the Nathanial Green Chapter, SAR, present to support these talented young orators. Their presence underscores the strong partnership between Scouting and organizations like the SAR in promoting patriotism and historical understanding.

Now, get ready to cheer Yashwanth on as he advances to represent Guilford County in the upcoming state-wide competition! We know he’ll do a fantastic job.
