Inaugural National Service Day
Saturday, November 14, 2026
The Old North State Council will participate in a council-wide National Service Day on Saturday, November 14th. This service project will be on conjunction with Backpack Beginnings and will consist a food drive which Backpack Beginnings will use to give to children and families in need.
There will be two ways that units can participate:
1. Units can do storefront collections on 11/14
2. Units can do a food drive with their chartered organization prior to 11/14 and deliver donations to Backpack Beginnings in person on 11/14
All Scouts who participate in this service activity will receive a patch, all units who participate in this activity will receive a ribbon for their unit flag. The unit with the most food per unit member in each district will win a pizza party!
This national service day is in conjunction with Scouting America’s Impact 365 initiative

ABOUT BACKPACK BEGINNINGS
Founded in 2010, BackPack Beginnings is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Guilford County, North Carolina, dedicated to connecting children and families with the essential resources they need to thrive. Serving more than 30,000 children experiencing hunger, trauma, and hardship, the organization works through a network of nearly 200 community partners across Guilford, Forsyth, and Alamance Counties, as well as its Family Market, to provide critical support directly to children and families in need.
Recognizing that childhood hunger and trauma can lead to lifelong developmental, emotional, and educational challenges, BackPack Beginnings strives to remove barriers to health, stability, and well-being by providing nutritious food, fresh produce, infant formula, baby food, hygiene products, diapers, clothing, shoes, school supplies, books, comfort items, baby accessories, and essential baby equipment.
Through its programs and community partnerships, BackPack Beginnings addresses immediate needs while creating a positive and lasting impact on the health, development, and overall well-being of children and families throughout the communities it serves.
Impact365 is a multi-year, national service initiative by Scouting America that empowers Scouts and their families to address community challenges, make a meaningful difference, and help shape a brighter future through year-round service.
Built on three core pillars—Character Building, Civic Responsibility, and Community Impact—the program encourages young people to develop leadership skills, strengthen their character, become engaged citizens, and work alongside families and volunteers to create positive, measurable change in communities nationwide.
With a goal of delivering more than eight million service hours, Impact365 tracks and celebrates volunteer contributions and project outcomes, demonstrating the lasting value of community service. Building on Scouting America’s 115-year legacy of developing more than 130 million youth into leaders and community contributors, Impact365 strengthens that tradition by inspiring a new generation to embrace service, take action, and create a lasting impact in the communities they call home.
