Update Your Unit Pin on the BeAScout Website

Scouting America offers on online application process for youth and adults that can be completed from start to finish without a single piece of paper changing hands. This allows prospective members and leaders to register and pay in a way that’s convenient for them, and it creates a more efficient and user-friendly registration experience for units, districts, and councils.  The BeAScout website is a great tool for recruitment season; however, outdated information about your unit could cause a potential member to join another unit nearby.

Have you heard that changes are coming to BeAScout Unit Pins? These changes are designed to allow Units to more easily share important information with prospective families. The goal is simple: make it easier for families to find the right Scouting Unit and take the next step.

The BeAScout site now includes new fields to let families know if your Unit offers fundraising to help cover costs and what your Unit’s dues are. You can also share more detailed meeting schedules and let families know if your Unit encourages trial visits.

We encourage you to complete these updates now so families will see accurate, complete information when the new BeAScout experience goes live.
Please note: The updates you make won’t appear on BeAScout until the new experience launches on August 3.
It’s important that all Packs make necessary updates before Join Scouting Nights begin. Troops, Ships and Crews will also benefit from updating their Unit Pins as older youth look for new activities in the fall.

Below are updated instructions on how to set up your BeAScout Unit Pin.
Please note that this action can only be taken by the Committee Chair, the Chartered Organization Representative, or the Unit Leader.

Set Up Your BeAScout Unit Pin

Please note that this action can only be taken by the Committee Chair, the Chartered Organization Representative, or the unit leader.

  • In My.Scouting.Org, click “Menu”, click on your Unit, then “Organization Manager”.
  • Select “Unit Pin” on the left hand side
    • Next, select the checkmark to the right of “Appear on BeAScout
    • Then, select the checkmark to the right of “Allow People to Apply Online
    • Select the checkmark to the right of “Fundraising Helps Cover Costs” if your unit offers fundraising
    • If your unit offers a trial visit, select the checkmark to the right of “Trial Visit Encouraged” (please include your meeting schedule in the “Additional Unit Information” and “Unit Meeting Information” sections)
    • Update “Contact Information” as needed
      • You can change contact information by clicking the name in “Contact Person”, which will create a “drop-down list” of all registered adult leaders
      • We suggest creating a unit email address that is accessible to your Key 3, to ensure any online application alerts are acted upon in a timely manner
    • Entering “Unit Fees” is encouraged but not required.  By default, the BeAScout Pin includes a blue “I” (for information) hover image that alerts potential members that “Each unit establishes dues and determines how and when they will be collected.”
    • In the box under “Unit Website”, enter the URL for the website your unit uses to provide information to potential families
    • Provide some interesting key points about your unit in the “Additional Unit Information” section.  Briefly let potential families know what activities your unit plans each year, for instance.
    • Save!
    • Next, navigate to the “Unit Meeting Information” section to include meeting locations and schedule.
    • You will see a “Unit Pin Preview” showing what data will appear at BeAScout.org
    • Select the appropriate “Fields to Display on Unit Pin
      • Unit Meeting Address
      • Contact Person’s Name
      • Phone Number
      • Contact Email
      • Unit Website
      • Additional Unit Information
    • Save!  Once you’ve saved, scroll to the top to see the “Successfully Updated” alert.  After the August 3rd, 2026 update launch, this will also remind you that changes may take up to 24 hours before they are live on the BeAScout website.
